Studio Neon

The problem

Studio Neon is a design studio for brand concepts and campaigns. Their work is loud, with bright colour and big type. Their own website had to stay out of the way and let the projects fill the screen.

Approach

Studio Neon made the design and the concept. I built it with Hugo, a static site generator, and Netlify CMS for editing. The homepage starts with a short statement in orange and then a grid of projects, each tile a full image or a colour block with the client and project name. A thin red line cuts diagonally across the grid. Project pages are mostly images, sometimes two side by side, followed by an orange bar that invites you to get in touch and links to the previous and next project. The about page sets the studio's description in white on orange above photos of the team. The menu has only 'over ons', 'contact' and a search icon. Hugo builds every page ahead of time, so there is no database or server code to look after. New projects and texts go in through the CMS.

Outcome

Studio Neon got a plain static site in which their own work is the loudest thing on every page.

What changed

• Homepage grid of project images and colour blocks.
• Project pages with previous and next links and a contact bar.
• Static pages built by Hugo, no database.
• Projects and texts edited in Netlify CMS.
